John and I have always loved being by water and beaches. Never in our wildest dreams did we plan on living on a boat and traveling the Great Loop. We had not even heard of The Great Loop until we heard Jim and Ginger talking about it. We started reading a little on the adventure and thought why not us.
We joined Jim and Ginger on the trip of a lifetime over the Fourth of July in 2008. Jim asked John if we could help him move his boat from Galveston to Pickwick Lake in Tennessee. We jumped at the opportunity and dove right into the planning of the trip. What is not to love – boats and water!!
We spent several months meeting for dinner and planning routes, supplies, etc. then the time arrived for us to take off on this great adventure. We had no idea where this would lead us over time. John took on the role as Navigator and I took on chef. Everyone knows my love for cooking so this was natural role for me. I cooked and John made sure we were in the right place at all times.
What at an adventure it was!!! It took about three weeks to make the whole trip. When we stepped off the boat at Aqua Yacht Harbor on Pickwick Lake we all turned to each other and said “let’s do it again.” I don’t know of another set of couples that could be on a 41′ boat for three weeks and still say let’s do it again. Great friends, great times, great food and drink.
Can’t wait to start our own adventure of a lifetime.
